Ascension Showcasing at the Kiwi Games Zone

Here at Violet Flame Studios we have just recuperated from a rather busy last week at the New Zealand Game Developers Conference (NZGDC)! We were grateful to score a free booth through Kiwi Games Zone (thank you!) so that we could showcase Ascension: The Immortal Alchemist alongside over 70 other (mostly indie) game devs.

The NZGDC ran from 1-3 October with a public open day on Saturday 3rd. During that time it was great to connect with so many other talented game developers and forge some new friendships. We met students studying game design from all over NZ, reps from game companies and people who just

love games.

Our booth was lit with red candles, banners, was watched over by a Thoth statue and decorated with chakra stones. We were lucky enough to be situated next to the coffee cart and next to some other amazing game devs from Studio Interlocke with their game ‘Highrise’.

The feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive with a few easy to fix criticisms (we’re getting onto it asap!). We had people compare Ascension to Tomb Raider, Assassin’s Creed, Dark Souls, Prince of Persia, and we even had some say it looked like a AAA game!

There were people who sat for a long time playing Ascension: The Immortal Alchemist who could not step away from the special challenge level we had set specially for the NZGDC. It was not an easy feat! Winter was the first person to complete the NZGDC level, they sat with us for 2-3 hours spread over two sessions on the Friday, and even came back for more in order to beat the dev time by half a second!!!! There were a few others who came back time and time again. Some others only stepped away as there were other people waiting to play. In the end we had four people complete the challenge and we will be sending them a free Steam key this week. Well done to Winter, Tully, Offline and Alexis!

Thanks again for everyone’s support and encouragement from the Kiwi Games Zone and to all the people that made it possible - Kiwi Games Zone, NZGDA, CODE, the studios who sponsored the event and Ninja Kiwi for sponsoring the free coffee!

We look forward to more events like this and the launch of

John & Sarah
